Esther E. THORNBURG, 87, formerly of Cantril, died at 6:02 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at Keosauqua Health Care where she had resided since October.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Alan Paris officiating. Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).
Visitation, with family present, will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials to Bonaparte Cemetery can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 16890 285th Road, Cantril 52542.
Mrs. THORNBURG was born Oct. 30, 1928, at Wathena, Kansas, the daughter of William and Jennie CALVERT LAIPPLE. She married Edward A. THORNBURG Nov. 11, 1949, in Lowell.
As a child, she moved with her parents to California and later to a farm near Lowell in Iowa.
After her marriage, the THORNBURGs lived in the Bonaparte community until moving to their farm southeast of Cantril in 1985.
She attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant and taught at the Lowell School. Following her marriage, she lived an active life as a farm homemaker.
Survivors include: two sons, Lloyd THORNBURG and wife Jeanine of Packwood and Mark THORNBURG and wife Annie of Cantril; one daughter, Becky HENN of Keosauqua; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Joe LAIPPLE of Prescott Valley, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by: her husband; two brothers, Jack and Matt LAIPPLE; and one sister, Mary TEMPLE.
