Mary Louise WHITCANACK, 91, of Cantril, died at 8:56 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Mary WHITCANACK

Mary Louise WHITCANACK, 91, of Cantril, died at 8:56 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, at home.

The funeral wil be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Donna Olinger officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Visitation, with family present, will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.

Memorials to Cantril United Methodist Church or Cantril Library can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 204 S. Grant St., Cantril 52542.

Mrs. WHITCANACK was born May 2, 1924, near Mt. Zion, the daughter of Lynford and Hattie WILEY LEAVITT. She married Oville (sic - Orville) WHITCANACK May 10, 1942, in Yuma, Arizona. He died Oct. 18, 1984.

At age 2, her family moved to Mt. Zion where she attended country school eight years. She graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1941.

After her husand was discharged from the Air Force, they moved to Washington, Iowa, where they were partners in a service station with her brother, Myrl LEAVITT. They moved to a farm southeast of Cantril where they lived until 1987 and retired to town.

Mrs. WHITCANACK was a member of Cantril United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and was secretary of the Cantril Library for many years.

She was an avid quilter and reader. She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, genealogy and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include: one sister-in-law, Birdie LEAVITT and many nieces, nepehws and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: one sister, Maureen MOORE; and one brother, Myrl LEAVITT.
