Cora Cleone WELLS

Cora Cleone WELLS, 96, of Keosauqua and formerly of Douds, died at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 24, 2015, at Keosauqua Health Care Center where she had resided since July 2014.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Lebanon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mark Young officiating. Burial wil be in Lebanon Cemetery (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Visitation will open at 3 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Lebanon United Methodist Church or Lebanon Cemetery can be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to the family at 14065 200th Road, Douds 52551.

Mrs. WELLS was born Nov. 3, 1919, in Chequest Township southwest of Douds, the daughter of J. Edwin and Althea Marie CASADY ZEITLER. She married Hollis W. WELLS Aug. 5, 1939, in Milton. He died Sept. 6, 1991.

Mrs. WELLS grew up on the family farm. She graduated from Valley School and from Milton High School in 1937.

She and her husband lived most of their married life on their farm southwest of Douds. He farmed and was a carpenter and she assisted him in both endeavors, including building 18 houses in and around Douds.

After her husband's death, she moved to Twin City Manor senior apartments in Douds and moved to Village Terrace assisted-living apartments in Keosauqua in 2013.

She was an avid quilter and made many quilts and pillows for family members as well as some to sell.

She was an active member of Lebanon United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and had been a member of Pythian Sisters and Rebekahs ladies fraternal organizations, the Valley Club and Farm Bureau Ladies.

Survivors include: two sons, Kenneth WELLS and wife Lila of Douds and Robert WELLS and wife Connie of Moravia; one daughter, Darlene HENDRICKS and husband Iska of Washington; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one brother, James ZEITLER of Douds.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: one brother, Harold ZEITLER; and one grandson.
