George DAVIS

George Edwin DAVIS, of Fairfield, Iowa passed away on his 90th birthday, November 21, 2015 in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Donnally, MN on November 21, 1925 to Mac Marshall DAVIS and Florence Elizabeth GLOTFELTY. The DAVIS' moved to Iowa when George was eight and he spent his childhood on farms in Iowa. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1943. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the Thespians. George farmed with his father following high school; he joined the United States Army in 1945 and served in the Army of Occupation stationed in Japan following WWII. Once George returned from Japan, he went to Iowa State University from 1948-1949 where he studied farm operations. George married his lovely bride, Jean BAKER in Fairfield on March 11th, 1950. The couple celebrated 65 loving years this past March. George farmed and raised cattle in the Birmingham and Fairfield area. He founded a real estate company, Davis and Palmer Real Estate in 1966. George spent over 40 years in the business and has handed down his skills two generations to his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. George loved spending time on his acreage with his family, and never missed a chance to tell his grandchildren how proud of them he was. He was an avid lover of music and sang in community musicals, quartets, and community choirs all throughout his life. George was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, the Fairfield Elks, was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on several committees and sang in the choir for over fifty years. He was a past President of the Southeast Iowa Board of Realtors, was treasurer of the Fairfield Multiple Listing Service, and was a charter member of the Fairfield Economic Development Association as well as a member of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Jean, his two sons, Mark Marshall (Kris) and Chris Baker (Debbi) both of Libertyville. Sister Marie PUMROY (Jim) of Ottumwa. He is further survived by six grandchildren, Christie (Alex), Terri (Aaron), Aaron, Chad, Evan, and Austin and five great-grandchildren, Xavier, Rowan, Vanessa, Ryder and Valerie as well as several nieces and nephew. He will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mac and Florence DAVIS.

A memorial fund is being set up for Hospice of Washington County. Donations can be made to "Hospice of Washington County" and mailed to Jean DAVIS at 106B E Monroe, Fairfield, IA 52556.

The visitation will be held at 1:30pm Wednesday with the funeral at 2:30pm with Pastor Bob Spliger officiating, both to be held at Raymond Funeral Home. Interment at Fairfield Evergreen Cemetery. A reception to follow interment at the Fairfield Elks.
