William F. LUDWIG

William F. LUDWIG Jr., 80, of Hillsboro and formerly of Ottumwa, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at his home in Hillsboro.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro, with the Rev. Jim Luder officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard.

Memorials can be directed to HCI Care Services of Mt. Pleasant or to the Hillsboro Fire Department. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.murphyfuneralandmonuments.com.

Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant is handling arrangements.

Mr. LUDWIG was born March 27, 1935, on the family farm at Caledonia, Wisconsin, the son of William Fredrick and Leta Grace BOWLES LUDWIG Sr. He married Patricia A. PETRIE Sept. 28, 1957, in Ottumwa.

He joined the United States Army Oct. 30, 1953, and was honorably discharged Oct. 30, 1956.

He owned and operated Ludwig Plumbing and Heating in Houghton for 25 years and then started working for B & B Gas Company for 20 years retiring in 1998. He helped his wife run the B & P Ceramic Shop. He had lived in Hillsboro for 55 years.

Mr. LUDWIG was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed woodworking, watching wrestling, collecting keychains, riding his scooter and taking his great-grandchildren for rides, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include: his wife Patricia of Hillsboro; four children, Paula HAMLIN and Debbie LUDWIG, both of Farmington, Tammy LUDWIG of Lone Tree and Greg LUDWIG of Grundy Center; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty BLACK of Bloomfield and Lillian JOHNSON of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; five brothers, Roby, Harold, Danny, Carl and Jerrold; and one sister, Velma FETTERS.
