The Reverend Lenwood MONTE, 86, of Ames, passed away October 31, 2015 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 13 at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert. Burial of the cremated remains will be at White Oak Cemetery in Forreston, IL.
Lenwood Lee MONTE was born June 9, 1929 to William Frederick and Helen Marie (LUNDA) MONTE in Woodford, WI. Lenwood graduated from Monroe High School in Monroe, WI. He joined the United States Army at 17 years of age and is a Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict) veteran. Lenwood graduated from Carthage College in Kenosha, WI and then attended Maywood Theological Seminary in Chicago. He pastored churches throughout Illinois and Iowa and considered himself a 'tent minister' because of the many churches to which he was called and served.
Lenwood and Donna HITEMAN were married August 2, 1953 in Forreston, IL. His hobbies included quilting, and cutting strips of cloth to make bandages that were sent to third world countries.
Lenwood is survived by his son, Gary MONTE of Des Moines; his daughter, Debbie DOLAN of Ames; his sister, Odelle LEONARD of Greenville, WI; two nephews, Mark LEONARD and Matthew LEONARD; and his niece, Jodelle THOMAS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; and his brother, Glenn MONTE.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Carthage College Music Department.
