Doug Phipps
September 07, 2004Doug Phipps, 67, of Boone and formerly of Fairfield, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at Boone County Hospital in Boone of congestive heart failure.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Open Bible Church in Boone. Burial will be in Mineral Ridge Cemetery north of Boone.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone, with family present from 7-8:30 p.m. Visitation continues Thursday from 9:30 a.m. at the church until the funeral begins.
Memorials can be made to the family.
Mr. Phipps was born Jan. 19, 1937, in Kingsville, Texas, the son of Ted and Hazel Terry Phipps. He married Dorothy Stewart Jan. 16, 1992, in Boone.
He was a typewriter technician in Fairfield and Boone for more than 40 years, employed first by IBM, later self-employed, then employed part-time by Select Office Systems of Ames. He was a bus driver for the Ogden School District.
Mr. Phipps and his wife were foster parents.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Phipps and wife Paula of Eldridge and Jamie Phipps of Boone; two daughters, Terrie McGuire and husband Jim of Clinton and Ann Martin and husband Randy of Fairfield; one stepson, Andy Zachar and wife Mary Lou of Meadville, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Judy Ahrens and husband Randy of Boone and Dianna Zachar of North Carolina; two brothers, Maurice Phipps and Ronnie Phipps, both of Boone; 15 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
