Eldon man killed in one-car accident
September 03, 2004

FLORIS -- An Eldon man was killed in a one-vehicle accident at 1:50 a.m. today 2 miles east of Highway 63 on Floris Road/J-15 near Floris.

Travis William Wharton, age 24, was killed when he was ejected from a 1998 Dodge Neon being driven by his wife Summer L. Wharton, age 21, also of Eldon.

According to an Iowa State Highway Patrol report, the vehicle was westbound on J-15 when the driver lost control, and entered the south ditch. The vehicle overturned into a ravine ejecting both occupants. Travis Wharton was pronounced dead at the scene. Summer Wharton was transported to Davis County Hospital and then life flighted to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

According to the highway patrol report, an investigation into the accident is continuing and charges are pending.

The highway patrol was assisted by Davis County Sheriffs Office, Bloomfield Police Department, Davis County Ambulance Service and Davis County Rural Fire Department.

Funeral arrangements for Travis Wharton are pending at Kramer's Funeral Home in Eldon.
