Norma Maxine Hesseltine
September 02, 2004Norma Maxine Hesseltine, 75, of Washington Care Center in Washington, Iowa, and formerly of Brighton, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Brighton United Church in Brighton, with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with family present from 5-8 p.m.
Memorials to Brighton United Church or Washington Care Center can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 1261 Highway 61, Delmar 52037.
Mrs. Hesseltine was born Oct. 11, 1928, near Germanville, the daughter of Chris and Lydia Kern Pohren. She married Robert D. Hesseltine Dec. 9, 1955, in Muscatine. He died March 27, 2003.
She attended Mohawk No. 9 country school before moving to Brighton in January 1939. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1948.
She was a homemaker. She was employed in Washington as housekeeper and laundress by Washington Care Center and as housekeeper at United Presbyterian Home for nine years. Her hobby was sewing.
Mrs. Hesseltine was a member of Brighton United Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Christine Hahn and husband Randy of Delmar; one son, Norman Hesseltine of Brighton; six grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; one sister, Viola Norton of Washington; and one brother, Leonard Pohren of Wayland.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Eunice Mann and Dorothy Crile; and three brothers, Clifford Pohren, Everett Pohren and Harold Pohren.
