Donald Dean STAGERS

Donald Dean STAGERS, 86, of Bartonville, Illinois, and formerly of Douds, died at 10:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at Unity Point Health-Methodist.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Bartonville American Legion in Bartonville. Burial of remains will be at a later date in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Bartonville Fire Department can be sent to his wife at PO Box 4078, Bartonville, IL 61607. Online condolences can be made at www.peoriafuneral.com.

Affordable Funeral & Cremation Services of Central Illinois in Bartonville is assisting with arrangements.

Mr. STAGERS was born on July 20, 1929, in Douds, the son of Jay and Fern CONNOR STAGERS. He married Eleanor L. GRUBB ANDREWS Feb. 13, 1971, in Peoria.

Mr. STAGERS served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1952.

He was employed by Byerly Aviation for 36 years developing and teaching aviation fueling classes throughout the U.S. He retired in 2005 as a ground supervisor.

After retiring, he worked part time driving the Peoria, Illinois, airport shuttle bus and cars for Bob Lindsay Honda in Peoria.

His hobbies included aviation, computers, RV camping and fishing. He obtained his private pilot certification in 1974 and flew the Good Year blimp in 1975 over Peoria. He was inducted into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame April 27, 2000. He was a member of the American Legion Post 979 in Bartonville.

Survivors include: his wife; two children, Randy STAGERS and Debby STAGERS; two stepchildren, Larry ANDREWS and Jay ANDREWS WEBB and spouse Linda of Las Vegas; and one stepgranddaughter.
