Mary Ellen POOL

Mary Ellen POOL, 85, of Burlington and formerly of Eldon, died in her sleep Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at Blair House Nursing Home in Burlington (note: in Des Moines Co., IA).

A graveside service was held at noon Monday in the Eldon Cemetery in Eldon (note: in Wapello Co,. IA).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa. Friends can sign the online guestbook at www.kremerfh.com.

Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. POOL was born Nov. 16, 1930, the daughter of Earl "Baldy" and Ruth SCONCE. She married in 1950.

Mrs. POOL graduated from Eldon High School in 1948.

She lived her entire life in Eldon as a homemaker devoted to raising her two children.

She also later volunteered with the reading program at Cardinal Elementary School and did volunteer work at the hospital in Ottumwa.

Mrs. POOL's greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren. She also loved animals, especially dogs. She was a supporter of the Ottumwa Humane Society. She had been an active member of the Ottumwa and Iowa City chapters of The Sweet Adeline's (sic) barbershop groups and traveled with them to competitions across the country. She was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed watching their games on TV. She loved Eldon and her community of friends.

Survivors include: two children, Phil of Burlington and daughter Julie SIDAK and husband Gene of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Fritz HAMILTON and Jake HAMILTON; and special friend, Ray Cox.
