Lydia JOHNSON, 88, of Fairfield and formerly of Livermore, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is helping the family with arrangements.

Lydia JOHNSON, age 88, of Fairfield, formerly of Livermore, IA, passed away at the SunnyBrook Living Care Center on August 24, 2015.

The body has been cremated per her wishes. There will not be any services.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Fairfield or Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City. They may be sent to 1005 East Harrison Ave, Fairfield, Iowa.

Lydia was born on September 10, 1926 in Kanawha, Iowa, to John & Mollia GROH. She married Daryl FREDERICK on December 22, 1945. They lived at Livermore, Iowa. They had three children, Ronald, Dale & Kathie. They were later divorced. On March 10, 1982 she married Alvin JOHNSON.

When she lived in Livermore, she was very active in her church -- Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was active in Ladies Aid, LWML, where she held the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary, VBS and Sunday school teacher. She started the youth choir at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Livermore, and sang in the adult choir. She joined the Hardy Trinity Lutheran Church in 1982 and was active there, until the death of her husband Al. She then moved to Humboldt, Iowa, and became a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, where she was also active in choir, Day Circle & LWML.

She was a Postal Service employee for 11 years. She did financial management counseling the Humboldt Extension Office. She loved music. She was a member of Melody Moms, a Double Quartet for 17 years. Her husband Al played the fiddle, and they traveled the country where he would play in fiddle contest.

She moved to Wagon Wheel Apt. in Fairfield in 2005 to be by her son, when her macular degeneration worsened. Despite her vision problems, she was active in card clubs and card games at the Wagon Wheel and Senior Center. She also loved to bake, and enjoyed providing many treats and meals for the other residence (sic). She enjoyed her many friends, no matter where she lived. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was very involved in their activities. She loved baking and to go fishing with her son, Dale.

Survivors are her son, Dale (Barbara) FREDERICK, Fairfield, IA; her daughter, Kathie JANSSEN of Humboldt, IA; step-son, Bob (Cindy) JOHNSON of Harding, IA; step-daughter, Debra (Larry) TILTON of Humboldt, IA; 12 grandchildren, Ronna TERRELL, Rodney FREDERICK, Viki (Shawn) NORTON, Ryannon (Curt) FREDERICK, Chris JANSSEN, Step-Grandchildren- Jessie (Heath) JOHNSON, Brett JOHNSON, Samantha JOHNSON, Joanne (Rhett) KNOLL, Jennifer (Mike) COLLINS, Janet (Troy) STUDER, & Jon TILTON; and 20 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John & Mollia (SCHOTT) GROH; two brothers, Carl GROH and infant brother John; husband, Al in 1993; her son Ronald in 1999, and one grandson, Michael JANSSEN in 2014.
