Irene Mae SOBASKI

WATERLOO -- Irene Mae SOBASKI, 100, of Waterloo, formerly of Brighton died Friday morning, Aug. 14, 2015, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center in Waterloo.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 1-2 p.m. immediately preceding the Funeral Mass. Memorials to the University of Iowa Foundation may be left at the church or mailed to Faye SHUNICK, 3847 Trent Lane, Waterloo, IA 50701.

She was born south of Brighton, Iowa, on Feb. 9, 1915, to August Charles and Mary Madgeline (sic) FRITZ PEIFFER. She attended Burr Oak Country School and graduated from Brighton High School in 1933.

She married Sylvester L. SOBASKI on Feb. 3, 1936, and lived her entire married life in her home place south of Brighton. Sylvester died Sept. 9, 1989 (sic - Sept. 18, 1989). Irene was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, D.C.C.W. and Burr Oak Woman's Club. She took over farm management and operations following Sylvester's incapacitation.

Survivors include two daughters: Faye A SHUNICK of Waterloo, Iowa and Kaye RICHARDSON of Tucson, Arizona, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Ernest and Ralph PEIFFER.
