Helen V. Rail Ingalls

Helen V. Rail Ingalls, 82, of Newton and formerly of Birmingham and Fairfield, died today, Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Careage Nursing Home in Newton.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, prior to the funeral.

Mrs. Ingalls was born Dec. 25, 1921, in Mason City, the daughter of Chad and Katherine Ditrick O'Brink. She was adopted in 1927 by John and Betty Kisling Rail of Stockport. She married Bill Ingalls; he later died.

She was employed as store manager at Hillcrest dormitory at the University of Iowa until her retirement in 1983.

Mrs. Ingalls was a member of First Baptist Church of Newton.

Survivors include four daughters, Linda K. Smothers of Newton, Billie R. Deck of New London, Janet L. Ferch of Wichita, Kan., and Kimberly D.M. Reese of St. Charles, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Wesley Earl Ingalls; and three brothers, Robert Rail, Leroy Bonsack and John Kozack.
