Gertrude L. LITE

Gertrude L. LITE, 90, of Glasgow, died today, Monday, June 8, 2015, at Park Place Elder Living Center in Mt. Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).

Funeral arrangements are pending at Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant.

Gertrude L. LITE

Gertrude L. LITE, 90, of Glasgow died Monday, June 8, 2015, at Park Place Elder Living Center in Mt. Pleasant.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at White Oak Cemetery north of Rome, Iowa, with the Rev. Earl Swigart officiating (note: in Henry Co., IA).

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to be directed to the Wounded Warrior or the Lockridge Lions in her memory. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.murphyfuneralandmonuments.com.

Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. LITE was born Set. 11, 1924, in Stockport, the daughter of Chester and Grace Leola HAMMONS DOUGLAS. She married Milo MESSER May 3, 1941, in Kahoka, Missouri. He died Nov. 8, 1969. She married Stan LITE July 31, 1971, in Keokuk. He died Nov. 26, 1992.

Mrs. LITE worked at Sylvania in Burlington for 15 years and Heatilator in Mt. Pleasant for 22 years retiring in 1989.

She was a wonderful cook and was known for her cookies, candy and rolls. She enjoyed reading mystery books.

Survivors include: her three children, Larry MESSER and wife Gloria of Mt. Pleasant, Michael MESSER and wife Jane of Mt. Pleasant, Christine WEINARD and husband Mike of Iowa City; one stepson Robert LITE; one stepdaughter Betty SMITH; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy SAMS of Mediapolis.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by: her parents; one son, Terry MESSER; one grandson; four sisters; and three brothers.
