Madeline SHANK McCOMBS

Madeline SHANK McCOMBS, 94, formerly of Batavia and Fairfield, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015, in Muscatine (note: Keokuk Co., IA).

As per her wishes, no services will be held. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and condolences may be mailed to Carolyn JAMESON, 617 East Ninth Street, Muscatine.

Madeline was born on November 26, 1920, new Floris, the daughter of Fred and Ethel ROUKE SHANK. She married George McCOMBS on May 27, 1941, in Lancaster, Missouri.

Madeline attended schools in Ottumwa and Agency and graduated from Agency High School in 1938. She also attended the Iowa Success Business College in Ottumwa. She and George farmed in Washington Township of Wapello County, Iowa, from 1946-1990. She resided in Fairfield until 2012 and had since lived in Muscatine at Lutheran Living Senior Campus.

She was a former member of First United Methodist Church, Heritage Club, and Keep Young Club, all in Fairfield, the Batavia Senior Citizen Center and Libetyville Travelers.

Madeline is survived by one brother, William (Mickey) SHANK of Bella Vista, Arkansas; niece Carolyn SHANK (Tom) JAMESON of Muscatine, nephews, Alan (Susan WITLER-SHANK) SHANK of Fort Collins, Colorado, niece, Judy (Steve) SHANK of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, niece, Mary Sue (Dave Drenner) BARTLETT of Cedar Falls, and nephew, Paul (Norma) McCOMBS of San Antonio, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2000; her parents; and her sister, Maryella WILLIS.
