Paul Joseph 'Sam' PACHA

Paul Joseph (Sam) PACHA, 86, of Washington, formerly of Brighton, died early Sunday May 24, 2015, at Halcyon House in Washington. He was born November 6, 1928, south of Brighton to John Joseph and Agnes Gertrude FRITZ PACHA. He grew up on the farm south of Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School in 1946. He married Beulah HECK in Washington June 7, 1951. She died August 25, 1998. Sam served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953. He farmed south of Brighton all of his life, retiring in 1998. He later moved to Washington. Sam was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a strong believer in farming conservation, enjoyed woodworking and was a doting grandfather.

He is survived by his two daughters, Pamela Jae PACHA of Iowa City and Patrice PACHA-SIDLER (Jeff) of Oak Brook, IL, three grandchildren: Amanda HENINGER, Elaine and Ryan SIDLER, one brother, Charlie PACHA (Maggie) of Washington, three sisters: Isabelle ADAM of Sigourney, Helen HESSELTINE of Oxford and Mary REDLINGER (Jim) of Washington and close farming partner John Gevock (Cathy) of Fairfield. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two sisters: Josephine PACHA and Anna SHERIDAN.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 A.M. Friday May 29, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with Rev. Robert Striegel and Rev. Bernie Weir officiating. He will be buried in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 P.M. Thursday May 28, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the family present 6-7:30 P.M. followed by Prayers for a Christian Wake at 7:30 P.M. Memorials for Hospice of Washington County or St. Joseph Cemetery Association may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 2517 Black Diamond Road, SW Iowa City, IA 52240. Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
