August 02, 2004Beryl L. Sherod, 89, of the Kilbourne community southwest of Birmingham, died at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.
The funeral was held this morning in Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Rev. Connie Markle officiating. Burial was in Kilbourne Cemetery.
Visitation and Eastern Star service were held Sunday.

Mrs. Sherod was born Dec. 25, 1914, near Pittsburg, the daughter of Garfield and Willa Kerr Strait. She married William W. Sherod June 5, 1937, at her parents' home near Pittsburg. He died May 21, 1999.
Except for nine years in Ohio, she lived her life in Van Buren County. After graduating from Keosauqua High School, she attended the University of Iowa and taught at the Selma school. From 1946, she assisted in managing the family farm near Kilbourne. She resided at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center for 10 months until her death.
Mrs. Sherod was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, where she taught Sunday school until her last illness. She was a 50-year member and past matron of Twin City Chapter 258, Order of Eastern Star in Douds, and had been active in Farm Bureau Women, Town and Country Garden Club, Republican Party and the former Kilbourne Ladies Aid.
Survivors include two children, Constance Chase and David Sherod, both of Kilbourne; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one brother, Rex Strait of Keosauqua.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Jeanette Taylor.
