Virginia M. VAN DE VOORDE

Virginia M. VAN DE VOORDE, age 87 of Fairfield died Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Virginia was born June 22, 1927 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Kamiel and Marie HOPPE VAN DE VOORDE.

She moved to Minneapolis, MN at age 15. She quit school and went back to Cedar Rapids to take care of both grandparents, who had cancer. She stayed 8 months after their passing and worked at J.C. Penney. She returned to Minneapolis and worked at J.C. Penney before moving to Fairfield with her family and worked before meeting her husband on a blind date on Thanksgiving.

Virginia married Julius H. "Zeke" VAN DE VOORDE on July 6, 1946 in Fairfield.

She was office manager and co-owner with her husband in the V & F Plumbing & Heating in Fairfield.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, V.F.W. Auxililary and the Fairfield Fast pitch Softball Association where she helped her husband run the concession stand at the O.B. Nelson Park She was an avid bowler for over 30 years along with her husband and daughter. Her favorite pastimes were crocheting, knitting, playing cards of all types. But most of all spending endless time with her family and grandkids.

Deceased family members include her husband on February 23, 2002, her parents, 3 children Joseph, Andre and Michelle; 1 grandson Billie STONER; and 1 great-granddaughter Alex HIGDON.

Surviving are her daughter Elodie SELLERS and husband Gary of Fairfield, her son Julius "Butch" VAN DE VOORDE Jr. and his wife Gretchen of Fairfield; 7 grandchildren: Julie BROWNING, Roxie KUEHL, Natalie HIGDON, Melissa ALLEN, Derek SMITH, Sunny ALLISON, and Mick VAN DE VOORDE plus 20 great grandchildren and her sister Betty HANSEN and her husband Leon of Washington, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 24th at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield with Father Nick Adam officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, followed by a Prayer service at 8:00 P.M.

Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
