Larry R. STREED, 74, of rural Mount Sterling, died at 7:21 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Larry R. STREED

Larry R. STREED, 74, of rural Mount Sterling died at 7:21 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with family present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Keosauqua Lions Club or Noah's Ark Animal Shelter can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 27174 Route W-20, Mount Sterling 52573.

Mr. STREED was born Aug. 19, 1940, in Fairfield, the son of Earl and Thelma BRIDGEMAN STREED. He married Carol BARTON, and they later divorced. He married Karen CANADAY SNYDER Sept. 1, 1984, in Chautauqua Park in Fairfield.

Mr. STREED graduated from Fairfield High School in 1958. He served in the Iowa Army National Guard. He was a longtime employee and supervisor with Iowa Electric Light and Power in Fairfield and Marshalltown. He later worked at Harper Brush Works in Fairfield and retired to Van Buren County in 1998.

He had served as mayor of Libertyville.

Mr. STREED had been a member of the Engineers Club in Marshalltown and was a longtime member of Fairfield Elks Lodge. He was currently serving as chairman of Van Buren County Historical Preservation Commission through which he was instrumental in erecting plaques portraying the history of the present and former villages of the county. He was very active in Keosauqua Lions Club. He also was a member of Village Winers and the Thursday night bridge group.

His pastimes included motorcycle riding, working in his blacksmith shop, birdwatching and spending time with his pets.

Survivors include: his wife; one son, Mark STREED of Des Moines; five daughters, Kristin STREED and husband Luis of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Shannon HIATT and husband Chris of West Des Moines, Carol SNYDER of Fairfield, Diana SPATES and husband Lloyd of Douds and Laura KURTZ and husband Pat of Packwood; eight brandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Joanne ROBERTS of Blanco, Texas, Beverly BLAKELY of Douds and Karen ROGERS of Branson, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Paul and Bill STREED; and one sister, Virginia STREED.
