Clarence E. WIXOM Jr.

Clarence E. WIXOM Jr., 89, of Bonaparte, died at 5:05 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at home under hospice care.

The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Mark Caston officiating. Burial be in (sic) Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington, with military rites by Sargeant-Osweiler Post 563, American Legion, Bonaparte.

Visitation opens at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home, where family will be present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to the Red Cross can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at PO Box 36, Bonaparte 52620.

Mr. WIXOM was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Farmington, the son of Clarence E. and Myrtle FIXSAL WIXOM. He married A. Rosalene AXTELL April 4, 1947, in Keosauqua.

Mr. WIXOM grew up and worked on the family farm in Farmington. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1944.

Mr. WIXOM entered into the United States Army July 7, 1944, as a field lineman. He fought in several major battles in World War II and was in several European countries with the 26th Infantry Company. He obtained the rank of corporal.

After his military service was completed, he moved to Bonaparte. He worked in a wax paper factory and as a truck driver. He was a foreman at Corry's Machine and Tool in Bonaparte, ran his own television repair business and was known as a jack of all trades.

His pastimes included woodworking and attending flea markets. He loved his grandchildren and was an honorary grandpa to many others.

Survivors include: his wife; three sons, Ronald WIXOM and wife Ann of Bonaparte, Wayne WIXOM and wife Peggy of Ottumwa and William WIXOM and wife Amanda of Carmel, Indiana; four daughters, Darlea WESTERCAMP and husband Rex of Mount Sterling, Marita DIEPHUIS and husband Roger of Keosauqua, Diane BELL of Bonaparte and Bonnie NELSON and husband Curtis of Bonaparte; one sister, Virginia GRAY of Farmington; one half-brother, Allen ANTHONY of Farmington; and many grandchildren, great-grandchidlren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Robert WIXOM; and one sister, Shirley TURNER.
