Wyatt W. Vance, 76, of Milton died at 6:55 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Milton United Methodist Church in Milton, with the Rev. Bryon Wixom officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton.

Open visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present from 7-8:30 p.m.

Memorials to Center Village can be left at the funeral home or the church or mailed to the family at 916 Country Lane Drive, Apt. 9, Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. Vance was born Jan. 22, 1928, in Cantril, the son of Hollis and Elma Price Vance. He married Betty J. Andrews Jan. 26, 1947, in Milton.

A 1945 graduate of Milton High School, he was employed by The Dexter Company of Fairfield before serving in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean conflict.

He farmed with his father in the Milton area. He was acting postmaster for two years and postmaster in Milton from 1967 until his retirement in 1989.

Mr. Vance was a member of Milton United Methodist Church. In addition, he had been Fox Valley school board secretary for several years and a member of American Legion Russell-Strait Post 483 in Milton.

Survivors include his wife; one son, James Vance of Keosauqua; three daughters, Rebecca McDanel and husband David of Ottumwa, Patricia Vance of Liberty, Mo., and Sheila Gudenkauf of Manchester; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Darlene Currier of Haverhill, Mass., Joan Ogden of Fairfield and Carolyn Burrell of River Hills, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant daughter.
