Herschel Melvin Humphrey
July 21, 2004

Herschel Melvin Humphrey passed away on July 18, 2004, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, MO.

Herschel was born October 23, 1924, at Wilmathsville, MO, the son of Clinton and Monna (Dunham) Humphrey. Herschel served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was discharged in 1946 and married Ruby Mann on June 24, 1946, at Kirksville, MO.

Herschel was an auto body repairman by trade and worked for many years at dealerships in Fairfield, Iowa. He moved to Rockaway Breach, MO, in 1983, and worked for several years at Clements Auto Body in Branson, then Auto Works in Forsyth until his retirement.

Herschel was a long time member of the V.F.W. and was of the Lutheran Faith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby, of 58 years, three children: Judy Wyble and husband Bill of Bowling Green, MO, Reta Marks and husband Bill of Forsyth, MO, and Kevin Humphrey of Rockaway Beach, MO, five grandchildren: Dena Nordyke and husband Russell, Tony Greenfield, all of Bowling Green, MO, Tammy Barnett and husband Shane of Hollister, MO, Christina Miller and husband James of Ft. Lewis, WA, and Jennifer Hull and husband Shawn of Anacortes, WA, ten great-grandchildren, three sisters: Maxine Neal of Republic, MO, Fern Bratton of Kirksville, MO, and Minnie Mahler and husband A.J. of Fletcher, OK, two brothers: Paul Humphrey of Orangeville, IL, and Earnest (Joe) Humphrey of Queen City, MO.

Herschel is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Bernard Humphrey and Chester Humphrey and one great-grandson.

Herschel was an honest, hard working man who was devoted to his family. He was respected by all who knew him and he will be forever appreciated and loved.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home in Branson, MO, and graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery in Branson, MO.
