Robert LeRoy HORRAS, 84, of Fairfield, died Thursday, March 19, 2015, at The Oaks Assisted Living in Fairfield.
Per his wishes, the body has been cremated. A graveside memorial service is planned at 11 a.m. Monday at Richland Friends Cemetery, with the Rev. Ed Parker officiating (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).
In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be made to Glenwood State Hospital. Cards and memorials can be mailed to Wayne HORRAS, 1226 Wapello-Keokuk Road, Hedrick 52563. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.behnerfh.com.
Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting the family.
Mr. HORRAS was born Aug. 24, 1930, at his home in Richland, the son of Richard and Margaret REED HORRAS. He married Kathleen Mae BRAY April 6, 1950, in Rock Island, Illinois.
Mr. HORRAS graduated from Richland High School with the Class of 1948. He lived all his life in the Richland and Fairfield area.
Mr. HORRAS drove for Tristate Motor Transit and Dickey Transport. He worked at each company for 18 years. He also helped his son Wayne with farming. He received several one-million safe driver awards.
He enjoyed motorcycling, car racing, gospel concerts and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include: his wife; six children, Linda LEU and husband Joe of Iowa City, Wayne HORRAS and wife Sylvia of Hedrick, Richard HORRAS of Glenwood, Brenda HORRAS of Glenwood, Cathy DEUTSCH and husband Kraig of Packwood and Angeline GOCKEL and husband Matt of Waverly; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Catherine MILLANE, Mary HOEKSTRA and Carol GREENE; and one brother, Richard HORRAS.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; and one son, Jay HORRAS.
