Harry E. STEELE
Harry Elva STEELE, son of Clem and Mattie LIKES STEELE, was born July 28, 1896, near Douds, Iowa and departed this life in a hospital at Mt. Pleasant on January 25, 1959 at the age of 62 years, 6 months, and two days. He had been in failing health two years and seriously ill for a month.
On August 4, 1915, he was united in marriage to Laura ARNOLD at Milton, Iowa. To this union was born one daughter. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, the daughter, LaVina (Mrs. James RUTHVEN) of Pella, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jeanne, Jimmie and Bobby RUTHVEN; a sister, Mrs. Alto LOAR of Troy, Iowa and a brother James of Keosauqua. One sister, Mrs. Anna BREWER preceded him in death in 1923. Also surviving is an uncle, Fred LIKES of Lincoln, Nebraska, several nieces and nephews other relatives and a host of friends.
His entire life was spent in the Douds community.
As a young man, Mr. STEELE3 graduated from an automobile mechanic's school in Kansas City, Missouri, and followed that profession all of his life.
He was a member of the Douds Baptist Church.
Harry was a loving husband and father, a friendly neighbor, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 1959 at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, in charge of the Rev. Glen A. Fuller, pastor of the Douds Baptist Church. Richard Carruthers of Keosauqua was the soloist, accompanied by Miss Carmen Teal of Keosauqua. Bearers were S.A. Barker, R.V. Finney, Van Byers, D.C. Greenfield, Earl Brown and Doyle Strang. Interment was in the Lebanon cemetery.
