ROSS S. STEELE.
ELDON. - Ross S. STEELE, 53, of Eldon, an engineer for the Rock Island railroad, died at the Ottumwa hospital Monday at 6:20 p.m., following a six months' illness.
The son of Edward and Aletha STEELE, he was born in Eldon July 31, 1900. He had lived his entire life in Eldon. An employe of the Rock Island railroad since 1917, he had served as a night ticket agent and a fireman before being promoted to engineer in 1941. His marriage to Evelyn FREED of Ottumwa took place September 30, 1937. She survives.
Surviving besides his wife are one son, David STEELE, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Paul FULTON, Jr., of Burlington; a step-son, Fred BELL of Tallahasee, Fla.; a grandson, Ross Eugene FULTON of Burlington; one brother, Charles W. STEELE of Hollywood, Fla., and one sister, Mrs. Mable FINNEY of Eldon.
He was a member of the Christian church of Eldon; Masonic lodge A.F. & A.M., No. 480; Consistery and Shrine Kaaba of Davenport; Wapello Shrine of Ottumwa; the Eagles of Silvis, Ill., and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers of Eldon.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Campbell funeral home in Eldon in charge of the Rev. Marion Prather, pastor of the Christian church. Burial will be in the Eldon cemetery with Masonic services at the grave.
