Mark Steven HUGHES, 54, of Selma, died today, Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, following a four-year battle with kidney cancer.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Mark Steven HUGHES, 54, of Selma, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, following a four-year battle with kidney cancer.

The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon, with the Reverends Mark Young, Dave Albert and Bobby Carnahan officiating. Burial will be in Iowaville Cemetery west of Selma (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Visitation will open at 11 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with family present from 5-7 p.m.

Per Mr. HUGHES's request, memorials can be given for the education of his granddaughter Riley. Memorials can be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to the family at 33131 145th St., Selma 52588.

HUGHES was born Oct. 17, 1960, in Keosauqua, the son of Karen LAMBERT HUGHES and Arden HUGHES.

He lived nearly all of his life in the Selma area, graduating from Cardinal High School in 1979 and Indian Hills Community College in 1981.

He had a 22-year career at Cargill in Eddyville. He also spent time at Winger in Ottumwa and Roquette in Keokuk. Most recently, he was maintenance manager during the construction and start-up of HF Chloralkali LLC in Eddyville.

Mr. HUGHES was a member of the Selma United Methodist Church and also attended Lake Road Church of Christ in Ottumwa.

Mr. HUGHES's proudest moments revolved around his family. He was a good-natured prankster. He had sense of humor, positive attitude and an ability to put others at ease.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary; one daughter, Ashton HUGHES; one son, Mason HUGHES; one granddaughter; one stepson, Kurtis GEE; one stepdaughter, Kayle GEE; grandmother, Helen LAMBERT; parents, Arden and Karen HUGHES; and two brothers, Scot HUGHES and Todd HUGHES.

He was preceded in death by: grandparents, Garold and Frances HUGHES and Paul LAMBERT.
