Edith E. Meredith, 85, formerly of Troy and Bonaparte, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Puyallup, Wash., where she had lived the past two years.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Memorials to the Bentonsport Cemetery Association may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at PO Box 474, Farmington 52626.

Mrs. Meredith was born Dec. 30, 1918, in Van Buren County, the daughter of Ernest and Ina A. Cass Huff. She married Merle D. Meredith Oct. 7. 1951, at Kahoka, Mo. He died July 6, 1989.

Mrs. Meredith graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1938. She and her husband operated O.K. Tavern, farmed near Bonaparte and lived many years north of Troy.

She was a longtime member of Order of Eastern Star. She and her husband both were active in Iowa and national trappers associations and belonged to the Fur Takers Association.

Survivors include three daughters, Ruth Ann Turner and husband Ron of Farmington, Meridith Twigg of Long Grove and Marjorie Dorothy and husband Robert J. of Puyallup; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was the last of her family and had been preceded in death by eight brothers, Dale, Brooks, Donald, James, Carl, Allen, Marshall and Bob Huff; and three sisters, Lenora McIntosh, Marjorie Hamlet and Ruth Peel. In addition to her siblings and her husband, she also was preceded in death by one son, Carl Meredith; and one grandson.
