Emma KURTZ, 84, of South English, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at Parkview Manor in Wellman.
A celebration of life service is planned at 7 p.m. Friday at Powell Funeral Home in Keota. A private burial at a later date will be at Keota Cemetery (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established for English River Church of The Brethren and Hospice Compassus. Tributes can be made online at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is assisting with arrangements.
Mrs. KURTZ was born April 2, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Ella TRAIL RUBEY. She married Robert KURTZ Sept. 10, 1950, at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield. He died in 1999.
Mrs. KURTZ graduated from Fairfield High School in 1949.
She lived in Enid, Oklahoma from 1951-1954 while her husband served in the Air Force. They then moved to the KURTZ family farm in rural South English, where she lived until moving to Parkview Manor in 2009.
Mrs. KURTZ was a homemaker. Her pastimes included gardening, flowers and wildlife.
She was a member of the English River Church of The Brethren, where she served on various committees and provided food for church functions.
Survivors include: three children, Jeannie STRIEGEL and husband Dennis of Harper, Michael KURTZ and wife Pattie of South English and Ronald KURTZ of Sigourney; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eloise NORTON of Fairfield.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; three brothers, Carroll, Henry and Charles; and three sisters, Enola RICHARDSON, Elsie NEECE and Laura Mae LEU.
