Wanda Catherine FRITZ

Wanda Catherine FRITZ, 82, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, afternoon, Jan. 14, 2015, at United Presbyterian Home in Washington.

The funeral Mass is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain.

Family visitation will be held prior to the funeral Mass from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials for St. Joseph Church, Hospice Compassus of Cedar Rapids or United Presbyterian Home in Washington can be left at the church or mailed to the family at 2757 124th St., Brighton 52540.

Mrs. FRITZ was born July 7, 1932, near Ainsworth in rural Washington County, the daughter of William Earl Bryan and Ethel Leota CALDWELL SWIFT. She married Clifford FRITZ Aug. 22, 1951, in Washington. He died March 20, 2010.

Mrs. FRITZ grew up in Washington County and graduated from Washington High School in Washington.

She and her husband lived on the family farm southeast of Pleasant Plain for 60 years. She worked briefly as a telephone operator and for Crane Company in Washington for 20 years.

She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain.

Survivors include: three daughters, Linda DAVIS of Cedar Rapids, Patricia BROKKEN of Roanoke, Virginia, and Rebecca FRITZ of Brighton; three sons Dennis FRITZ and wife Julane of Indianola, Ed FRITZ and wife Deb of Washington, and Leo FRITZ of Brighton; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edith WELLINGTON of Washington, Martha HAWKINS of Mesa, Colorado, and Annette CHALUPA of Washington; and two brothers, Lawrence SWIFT and Bill SWIFT, both of Washington.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; one son, Tom; four brothers, Bernard, George, Charles and Marion SWIFT; and three sisters, Esther HOUSEAL, Doris SOJKA and Erma Jean FRITZ.
