Maurice U. ROACH

Maurice U. ROACH, 97, of Fairfield, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 6, 2015, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

A prayer service will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield. The service will be followed by visitation from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials can be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church or Mass stipends. Online condolences can be made at www.raymondfuneralhomes.com.

Mr. ROACH was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Birmingham, the son of John and Caroline GLANZMAN ROACH. He married Betty L. MOSINSKI Sept. 10, 1949, at St. Mary Catholic Church.

He graduated from Pleasant Plain High School and received his electrical engineer degree from the University of Iowa in 1950.

He had been a resident of Fairfield for 62 years.

He worked as an electrical engineer for Silas - Mason Company in Burlington from 1950 until his retirement in 1984.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in both the European Theater of Operations and the Philippines in the Pacific as a chief electrician's mate from 1942-1946.

Mr. ROACH was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Survivors include: his wife Betty; four daughters, Marilyn GRAHAM and spouse Stephen of Frankfort, Illinois, Carolyn ROACH of Dallas, Texas, Maureen ROACH of Fairfield and Marianne NIENHUIS and husband Mark of Jamestown, North Carolina; two sons, John ROACH and wife Susan of San Antonio, Texas, and James ROACH and wife Carol of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Bernard ROACH and Lawrence ROACH; and three sisters, Margaret Sophia DOUGLAS and two infants.
