June 28, 2004Retha Mae Rhodes, 89, of Ollie, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont, with the Rev. Charles Comfort officiating. Burial will follow at Ollie Cemetery.
Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today, with family present from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to Ollie First Responders or Wapello County Hospice.
Mrs. Rhodes was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Davis City, the daughter of Willard and Mary Ann Henderson Lovell. She married John Laurence Rhodes Nov. 24, 1934, in Watertown, S.D. He died in June 1998.
She attended school in Davis City and Fairfield before settling in Ollie. A homemaker and farmer for most of her life, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting and gardening.
Mrs. Rhodes had been a member of Ollie Baptist Church for more than 55 years and was a 66-year member of the Wide Awake Club.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Rhodes and wife Margie of Liberal, Mo.; one daughter, Joann Hersh and husband Len of Ollie; one daughter-in-law, Jean Rhodes of Nauvoo, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John Richard Rhodes; and two sisters, Martha Johnson and Georgia Hay.
