Kenneth Samuel Luckman, 89, of 3000 W. Madison Ave., died at 8:39 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating.

Masonic rites will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home. Family visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m.

Memorials can be made to First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Luckman was born Aug. 12, 1914, in Keokuk, the son of Sam and Violet Adele Giese Luckman. He married Vera Renovia Howell July 25, 1939, in Springfield, Ohio. She died Nov. 27, 2002.

After graduating from Fairfield High School in 1932, he attended Hemphill Diesel School in Chicago, Ill., for two years. He owned and operated Luckman Hardware for 30 years until his retirement in 1976.

A member of the Fairfield Masonic Lodge AF & AM 15 since 1946, he became the first president of Masonic Harmony Group in 1956, and was past master and member of the Masonic temple board. He was presented the DeMolay Cross of Honor in 1951. He had been a member of Elks Lodge 1192 and chairman of the Senior Citizen Board in 1988.

Active in the Boy Scouts organization, he was chairman of the Blackhawk District Boy Scouts. In 1956, he was chief of the Knohocado Tribe of Boy Scouts. Presented to Mr. Luckman were the Boy Scout Honor Award in 1961 and in 1965 the Silver Beaver Leadership Award, Boy Scouts' highest award.

Mr. Luckman was a member of First Presbyterian Church and chairman of the church board from 1954-1956.

Survivors include one son, David Luckman and wife Donna of Fairfield; one daughter, Carole Rucker of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Erma White.
