Earnest Keith Ireland, 89, of Texarkana, Texas, and formerly of Wayland, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, in a Texarkana hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Fuqua-Everett Memorial Chapel at the Texarkana Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Texarkana.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to Unity Baptist Church, 2623 Texas Blvd., Texarkana, Texas 75501.

Mr. Ireland was born April 8, 1915, in Wayland. He married Hazel Fields, who died Sept. 23, 2003.

He lived in Texarkana the past 40 years. He retired from Parwin Chemical Company and had been employed by Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant and Silas Mason Company.

A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans, Mr. Ireland was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II honored by two bronze star medals.

He was a member of Unity Baptist Church.

Survivors include three children, Marilyn Richenberger and husband Steve of Longview, Texas, Sandra Arthur and husband Earl of Texarkana and Jerry Grand and wife Lydia of Boulder, Colo.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Locally, he is survived by one brother-in-law, Robert B. Ferrell of Fairfield.

His wife preceded him in death.
