Mary Jane Landes, 81, of Larchmont, N.Y., and formerly of Keosauqua, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at New York Methodist Center in Port Chester, N.Y.

A graveside service and interment of cremains will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Ellis Andrews officiating.

Memorials to Middlebury College or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals can be brought to the service or mailed to Pedrick Funeral Home at PO Box 513, Keosauqua 52565.

A longtime employee of Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, N.Y., Ms. Landes researched new medicines for arthritis, cancer and other diseases.

As a youth, she visited her grandparents John and Laura Landes in Keosauqua and her aunt Bertha Myers, who operated Hotel Manning in Keosauqua. Other Keosauqua relatives included the late Laura Daughrity and the late John A. Manning.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Anne Landes Moffett.
