Edward Aaron, 88, of SunnyBrook Assisted Living in Fairfield, passed away peacefully Saturday night, June 12, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.

Eddie was born in New York City, and grew up in Greenfield, Mass. He graduated from Bryant College of Business in Providence, Rhode Island. During World War II, he served in a MASH unit as a surgical assistance in the operating room. After returning from the war, he married Frances Hurowitz whom he met through correspondence during his term of duty.

He moved to Claremont, New Hampshire in 1949, where he opened a chain of gas stations and a fuel oil company. He served as president of the Public Library Board, the Jewish Synagogue and the Gasoline Retail Dealers Association. In 1972, Eddie and Fran moved to Hartford, Connecticut, when Eddie took the position of chief administrator of a 360-bed nursing home. He retired and moved to Ashville, North Carolina, in 1984. Eddie enrolled as a music and history student at the University of North Carolina where he was the patriarch of his classes. He enjoyed playing tennis several times a week, continuing until age 83. After his wife's passing four years ago, Eddie moved to the Fairfield area to be near his daughter and her family.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet Swartz of Fairfield and her two sons, Daniel and Deborah and his son, Jeffery Aaron of Silver Spring, Maryland, and his two children Eric and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and one brother.

A memorial service will be held at SunnyBrook Assisted Living Monday, June 14, at 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Beth Shalom Synagogue, c/o Frederick Swartz & Company, 200 West Washington, Fairfield, IA 52556.
