Phyllis M. BENTLEY, 83, of 909 E. Madison Ave., died Saturday evening, June 12, 2004, at her home.

The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established in Mrs. BENTLEY's name to First United Methodist Church, Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary and Fairfield Public Library.

Mrs. BENTLEY was born Nov. 19, 1920, at LuVerne, the daughter of Philip and Permilla LEGLER Lichty. She married Laurel P. BENTLEY Aug. 9, 1950, at LuVerne. He died March 16, 1988.

She grew up in LuVerne and attended business college in Fort Dodge.

She and her husband lived in Virginia before moving to Fairfield in 1956. They owned and operated the Dream Motel and Stever House restaurant.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary. She worked in the auxiliary's Hospital Gift Shop.

She enjoyed her grandchildren, playing cards and her Sunday coffee club.

Survivors include one son, Philip BENTLEY and wife Judy of Waukee; one daughter, Dawn BENTLEY of Des Moines; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her twin brother, Phil LICHTY.
