Willis BIDDLE

Willis BIDDLE age 83, of Fairfield, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center.

A memorial is planned for 11 a.m. Dec. 1, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Jessica Rockhold-Gaul officiating.

A full obit for Mr. BIDDLE will be printed at a later date.

Willis Stanley BIDDLE

Willis Stanley BIDDLE, age 83 of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Sunny Brook Living Care Facility.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, IA with Pastor Jessica Rockhold Gaul officiating. Burial of cremains will be at the German Cemetery on the shores of German Lake in Clevaland, MN at a later date.

Visitation for family and friends will from (sic) 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 immediately before the Memorial Service.

Memorials may be made out to the Willis Biddle Family. Cards and memorials can be sent to 1286 Velvetleaf Lane, Lino Lakes, MN 55038.

Willis was born at the Des Moines General Hospital to Stanley Curtis and Ada Mae (FLINN) BIDDLE on September 2, 1931. He graduated from Adel High School in 1948. He married Hilma HULL in Urbandale, IA on January 19, 1957 (she preceded Willis in life in 1998).

Willis was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict serving from 4/10/52 to 4/9/54 primarily in Alaska, and was Honorably Discharged at the rank of E4-Corporal.

Upon his return from military service, Willis return (sic) to farming but on the advice of his father went to "town" and briefly was employed with a highway pavement contractor where he was initially exposed to Iowa Highway Commission (IHC, later known as the IADOT) for which hired him (sic) to be on their preliminary surveying crew laying out many of the miles of the current Interstate Highway system in the State of Iowa. In the early 1960's he was the Lead Surveyor Party Chief working out of the Ottumwa IADOT construction office. In 1972 Willis successfully passed the Registered Professional Land Surveyors exam and was promoted to the Fairfield IADOT District Office where he retired in the 1990's after 36 years of service to the ICH/IADOT. In his post professional retirement years he ran his own land surveying business.

He was a member of the Methodist Church since being born, and most recently as an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a volunteer on many different committees and initiatives. He was a volunteer with the Boys Scouts (sic) (Troop 21 in Ottumwa and Troop 64 in Fairfield). He was a founding member of the Chief Wapello Trail, Golden Eagle Order of the Arrow District Advisor, and recipient of the District Merit Award, a Vigil Honor Member, and was awarded the "Silver Beaver".

Willis was a member of the Ferguson Enthusiasts of North America with a passion for Ferguson tractors for which he collected and refurbished, and included nearly a dozen tractors and many more of the Ferguson implements. He was also a member of the Hull Pottery Association, collecting and attending numerous regional/national conventions. He also participated in local square dancing events. He shared all of these interests and hobbies, including wintering in Pharr, TX, with his life companion Marjorie Marine.

Willis is survived in life by his son Richard (Judith) BIDDLE (Lino Lakes, MN), and his grandchildren Tiffany (John) VanDenBROEKE (Okinawa, Japan), Kyle (Amanda) BIDDLE (Woodbury, MN), and Troy BIDDLE (Lino Lakes, MN). He also leaves behind four great granchildren: Alexander, Amelia, and Carmon VanDenBROEKE and Braydon BIDDLE. He is also survived by his brother Delos BIDDLE (West Bend, IA).
