Robert Russell COVERT, 76, of Batavia, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia. Following the service, the body will be cremated, with burial to be held at a later date.

Visitation will be immediately prior to the service beginning at noon Saturday at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the family. Friends can sign the online guestbook at www.kremerfh.com .

Robert Russell COVERT

Robert Russell COVERT, 76, of Batavia, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia. Following the service, the body will be cremated, with burial to be held at a later date.

Visitation will begin at noon Saturday and last until the funeral.

Mr. COVERT was born Aug. 17, 1938, in Wapello County, the son of James Oscar and Vetra PADGET COVERT. He married Barbara Jean SIX Nov. 9, 1956.

He grew up in Ottumwa, where he attended school, graduating with the class of 1956. He held two state record titles in wrestling that stood for many years after his graduation.

The fmaily lived in Kansas City, Missouri, where Mr. COVERT worked at the Ford plant. In 1972, the family moved to Batavia, and he worked in the area as a feed salesman before purchasing a used-furniture store in Fairfield. Later, he began working as a security guard at the Walmart warehouse in Mt. Pleasant. He had been a member of the Walmart team for more than 28 years.

Mr. COVERT enjoyed going out for a nice meal with his wife and would often go shopping with her, which usually involved him dropping her off and waiting in the car. In his spare time, he liked to repair and haul pallets.

Survivors include: his wife of Batavia; two daughters, Cynthia FRANKLIN and Rebecca CRISWELL; eight grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Floyd COVERT of Blakesburg and Bill COVERT of Floris; and two sisters, Sheri GUTHRIE and Vicki RATH of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerry COVERT; and two sisters, Beatrice YATES and Betty DURHAM.
