Leland STANLEY, 75, formerly of Fairfield, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at Parkridge Specialty Care in Pleasant Hill.

Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting the family with arrangements.

Leland STANLEY

Leland L. STANLEY, 75, of Altoona and formerly of Fairfield, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at Parkridge Specialty Care in Pleasant Hill.

A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Todd Treese officiating. Per Mr. STANLEY's wishes, the body has been cremated. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.

Visitation for family and friends will 6-8 p.m. (sic) Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials can be made to Jefferson County 4-H Foundation, Fairfield First United Methodist Church or Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Cards and memorials can be sent to 1022 Eighth St. SE, Altoona 50009. Online condolence can be made at behnerfh.com.

Mr. STANLEY was born Aug. 14, 1939, in Henry County, the son of Merle and Viola MOXLEY STANLEY. He married Shirley Jean TEETER Oct. 2, 1960, at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield.

Mr. STANLEY served in the U.S Army from 1962-1964. He worked for 40 years for U.S Postal Service as a rural carrier. He and his wife were managers of the Sunset Roller Rink and had their own lawn care service called "Stanley Custom Lawn and Garden Care."

For many years, Mr. STANLEY was a 4-H club leader, county fair judge and custodian at the agriculture building during the Iowa State Fair. Mr. STANLEY was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame in 2007.

Mr. STANLEY was a Master Gardner (sic).

He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: his wife; two daughters, Reesa STANLEY of Altoona and Deena STANLEY-DOSTART and husband John, also of Altoona; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles Jr, Dale, Clifford and Marvin STANLEY; and one sister, Refa McCLELLAN.
