Monday, Dec. 10, 1973Death Takes F.M. GANTZ
ABINGDON - Franklin Morris GANTZ, 78, died at 12:01 a.m. Sunday at his home in Abingdon. He was a native of Jefferson County.
Masonic rites will be conducted at the Weston Behner Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Abingdon Masonic Lodge in charge. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion.
Franklin M. GANTZ was born Feb. 18, 1895 at Brookville, the son of Harry C. and Emma MORRIS GANTZ. His marriage to Margaret Lucile WHITMORE took place March 9, 1918. She survives.
GANTZ had been employed as a road maintainer operator for Jefferson County for 41 years prior to his retirement.
A veteran of World War I, he was a 50-year member of the American Legion and Eagles Lodge at Fairfield; Peoples' Church at Batavia and Masonic Lodge at Abingdon.
In addition to his widow, GANTZ is survived by three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Mable FAIRCHIELD, Ottumwa; Mrs. Kathaleen McCullough, Fairfield; and Mrs. Genevieve SANDEN, Blakesburg. He was preceded in death by one brother.
The family will receive friends at the Behner Funeral Home from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. A memorial has been established for the People's Church.
