Elmer ANDERSON rites Friday

Elmer E. ANDERSON, 85, veteran of World War I, died at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Nelson Nursing Home. He had been in failing health the past 11 months.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Riggs officiating. Military rites will be conducted at Evergreen Cemetery by the American Legion.

Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

ANDERSON served with the U.S. Navy during World War I and had worked 30 years as a maintenance worker for the Iowa Highway Commission. He had lived in the Fairfield Community for 61 years.

Elmer E. ANDERSON was born Jan. 25, 1897, in Osase, Kan., the son of Nels J. and Ann JOHNSON ANDERSON. He was married to Ida Louise KELLEY Dec. 3, 1920, in Ottumwa. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Maxine RIVEY, Ottumwa; a son, Elmer J. ANDERSON, Monticello; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Myrtle HUNTINGTON, Cleveland, Ohio.

ANDERSON was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
