A number of Fairfield area residents have returned from Atchison, Kansas, where they attended the funeral for H.F. "Fred" DUTTWILER (sp), native of Merrimac and former resident of Jefferson County.
Those attending the funeral include nieces and nephews: Mr. and Mrs. John PRENTICE and E.W. DUTTWEILER, Fairfield; Mrs. Roy ROGERS, Brighton; and Mr. and Mrs. Daryl ROBERTSON, Blakesburg. Mrs. ROGERS remained a few days to visit with her aunt.
H.F. "Fred" DUTTWEILER, 85, longtime railroad employee and Masonic member, died in his sleep June 4 at his home in Atchison.
DUTTWEILER was born Sept. 2, 1896, at Merrimac where he attended school and graduated from Pleasant Plain Academy. He began working for the railroad at Brighton in 1916, and later moved to Trenton, Mo., and Leavenworth, Kansas, working for the Rock Island before going to Atchison. He retired as chief clerk in May, 1966.
He was married Dec. 18, 1917, at Fairfield to Irena MACY of Pleasant Plain. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Dee D. DUTTWEILER, Atchison.
