Lorene Yvonne DAWSON HENRY, 88, of Keota, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
A celebration of life service is planned at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with the Rev. Jim Stout officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
A general memorial fund has been established. Condolences can be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
Mrs. HENRY was born March 5, 1926, near Hayesville, the daughter of Elmer and Hazel HOLLINGSWORTH DAWSON. She married Lee Junior HENRY April 28, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He died in 2009.
She grew up in Hayesville and attended country school. She worked at the Hayesville grocery store until her marriage.
The couple lived on and farmed a Century Farm south of Keota.
She was an honorary member of the Talleyrand Ladies Club.
Mrs. HENRY enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her pastimes included gardening and canning, playing bingo and cards and visiting with neighbors and friends. Her cooking and baking were enjoyed by family and friends.
Survivors include: two children, Linda HEISDORFFER and husband Gene of Sigourney and Larry HENRY and wife Noni of Keota; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Colleen VAIL of Sigourney.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson; and one brother Ward DAWSON.
