May 18, 2004George A. Patton, 96, formerly of Fairfield died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ankeny Funeral Home in Ankeny.
Visitation will be 6:30-7:30 p.m. today at Ankeny Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Patton was born Jan. 7, 1908, in Denver, Colo., the son of George A. and Nannie Patton.
As a young man, he was employed by a grain elevator business, a grocery store, and a filling station. After 12 years as a tool and die tradesman in Kansas City, Mo., he owned and operated a meat locker and grocery store in Missouri for 11 years. In 1954, he moved to Fairfield to open a paint store. He expanded the business into fabrics, sewing machines, scissors sharpening and photography. Patton continued sewing machine repair throughout his retirement.
He had traveled throughout the United States, Europe and other countries.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah; one daughter, Lavon; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
