William Warren "Bill" Leathers

William Warren "Bill" Leathers, 76, of 2687 189th Street, Fairfield, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at his home.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Open visitation will continue until 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a hospice organization or to First United Methodist Church.

Leathers was born Jan. 31, 1928, in Fairfield, the son of Glenn LaVere and Rebba Keeler Leathers. He married Donna L. Lenhart Oct. 15, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

A lifetime resident of Fairfield, he graduated from Fairfield High School in 1946. He farmed and was employed at American Chain & Cable for 25 years in addition to working in carpentry and small construction.

He served as a warrant officer with the Iowa National Guard.

Mr. Leathers was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He was a collector and refinisher of antique tools, a canoeist, and a member of the EconoFoods coffee club.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, William W. Leathers Jr. of Fairfield, David Leathers of Richland and Jerry Leathers and wife Nancy of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one brother, Glenn Leathers Jr. of Cairo, Ill.; and one sister, Betty Keller of Fairfield.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Patricia Frieberg.
