Stephen P. Carr, 82, of rural Douds died at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 16, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Connie Markle and the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in Leando Cemetery in Leando.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Douds, with family present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials to Douds depot restoration project may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 14013 Highway 98, Douds 52551.

Mr. Carr was born May 6, 1922, on the family farm south of Douds, the son of Harry and Mary Mae Plowman Carr. He married Melva L. Pearson Aug. 9, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She died Jan. 17, 1996.

He graduated from Douds High School in 1940 and spent his life farming.

Carr was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was a board member of the Leando Cemetery and the former Douds-Leando Telephone Co. He had been a Boy Scout and 4-H leader.

Survivors include two sons, Carl Carr and Lawrence Carr, both of Douds; two daughters, Linda Rozendaal of Oskaloosa and Phyllis Hendricks of Bonaparte; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Madelyn Davis of Keosauqua.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
