Chris L. PALCHEFF, 91, Springfield, Missouri, and formerly of Fairfield, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield.
A funeral was held July 21 in King's Way United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jon Spalding officiating, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel in Springfield, Illinois. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a health or environmental charity of the donor's choice.
Dr. PALCHEFF was born Dec. 5, 1922, in Madison, Illinois, the son of mother, Lazar and Zoya MARCOVSKY PALCHEFF. He married June V. ARGUE June 25, 1950.
He attended Madison Public Schools and Washington University.
For three years during World War II, he served his country in an Army medical post in Europe. Upon returning home, he attended Washington University Medical School. He served his internship in Pennsylvania, then joined with two medical school classmates, Jack Morgan and James Dunlevy, to start Fairfield Clinic in Fairfield during the mid-1950s.
He returned to St. Louis a few years later to specialize in pediatrics. In 1958 he moved to Springfield and began a pediatric medical practice. He retired in July 2005.
Dr. PALCHEFF enjoyed yard work, spending time outdoors, hiking, fishing and camping. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and regularly watched their games on TV.
Survivors include: two daughters, Carol PEARSON and husband Charles of Springfield, Missouri, and Mary WIEMER and husband Randy of Columbia, Missouri; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Mary TARPOFF of Granite City, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, John PALCHEFF and George PALCHEFF; one daughter, Christine Elizabeth PALCHEFF; and his parents.
