Ardyce VITTETOE

Ardyce Fay VITTETOE, 86, formerly of Farson, died at 10:46 p.m. August 7, 2014 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

She was born September 27, 1927 in Independence, IA to Joseph and Lorena KESTER WAVRIN. Ardyce moved to California in 1935 and graduated from Sweetwater High School in National City, CA in 1943.

She married Richard Michael VITTETOE on July 19, 1946 in Chula Vista, CA. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2012. After getting married they moved to Keota, IA where she helped her husband farm, and they also farmed in the Oskaloosa area for 16 years. She and her husband owned and operated Platime Supper Club in Rose Hill. They resumed farming near Farson in 1965 while successfully raising their five daughters and special granddaughter, Veronica.

After the farm house burned in 2012, they retired to Osceola where they still remained active in the guiding the farm operation. She volunteered teaching children and no matter who met Ardie she was likely to tutor you on a point of life.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation in Ottumwa and attended St. Bernard Catholic Church in Osceola.

Surviving are five daughters, Cheryl BARNETTE of Overland Park, KS, Mary Sue (Michael) NOONE of Leavenworth, KS, Dr. Fay A. (Dr. Mary A. ANSON) VITTETOE of Brighton, Deborah J. (Howard) ADRIAN of Fairfield and Tina M. (Tom) BULLINGTON of Wichita Falls, TX; six grandchildren, Scott (Deb) RUGGLES, Veronica (Brandon) EIGHMY, Anthony (Sara) ADRIAN, Tina (John) PFEIFER), (sic), Justin (Darla) MYERS and Jacquelyn MYERS; 12 great-grandchildren, Logan YOCHUM, Lauren and Erin RUGGLES, Tanner, Ashlynn and Owen ADRIAN, Lincoln, Harrison and Blythe EIGHMY and Amya, Kaedyn and Kolt MYERS; a sister, Joanne BRADEN; a brother, Jack WARVIN (sic - WAVRIN); many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christina M. YOCHUM; a brother, James WARVIN (sic - WAVRIN) and a son-in-law, Gene BARNETTE.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary of the Visitation. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery (note: likely the one in Ottumwa, IA).

Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to Friends of Lake Darling State Park, Seton Catholic School in Ottumwa or St. Bernard Catholic Church in Osceola.
