Howard O. BACKSEN

Howard O. BACKSEN, 89, of Marion, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at St. Luke Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

The body was cremated.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Kent officiating. Burial will be in the Glasgow Cemetery in Glasgow.

The son of John and Marie BUMANN BACKSEN, he was born Aug. 25 1910, in Marne. He married Malura Alyn BOWER on Aug. 16, 1939 in Fairfield.

He was formerly of Fairfield and was a self-employed carpenter and home builder for most of his life.

A 50-year member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 15 AF and AM in Fairfield, he was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion.

Survivors include his wife Alyn of Marion; two sons, Lee of Houston and Kenneth of New Orleans.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Cedric; and one sister, Helen RUDDELL.
